Veterans serving veterans in Douglas County, CO

Castle Rock resident and former U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Chris Maes is the newest U.S. veteran giving back to fellow service members in Douglas County.

Maes, appointed by the Board of Douglas County Commissioners to a two-year term, will serve as one of four volunteer Veterans Service Officers in the County’s office. As part of his duties, he will assist other veterans and their dependents in applying for VA benefits and services that they are eligible to receive.

“Nearly 20,000 veterans live in Douglas County and we thank them for their great sacrifice in service to our country,” said County Commissioner George Teal. “We want all veterans to know the many benefits available to them and that the Office of Veterans Affairs is ready to help them determine their eligibility and access the benefits offered.”

Maes stated that he is looking forward to building on his previous work with veterans and grateful to have the opportunity to serve and advocate for the service members in our community and connect them to vital services that can improve their lives.
